Meet our first Class of 2012 Senior Portrait Model, Jihan, who comes to us from Rex Putnam High School, where she’s heavily involved in drama and choir. Jihan heard about Continuum Seniors from her drama teacher at Rex Putnam, and her passion for performing was obvious from the moment we met her. She loves music and plays piano, and when she’s not lighting up the stage, she’s likely wandering the streets of downtown Portland, shopping or hanging out with her friends. As if a fresh face and performing talent wasn’t enough, she has brains, too–she’s also a member of the National Honor Society.

Our Senior Models get the full Continuum Seniors experience, so we whisked Jihan into makeup and hair styling, and documented the process. Then, we returned to our studio to pick out the final, fashionable touches for her outfits, before venturing out into a breezy, sunny, and gorgeous Portland afternoon.

Gorgeous (and lightning-fast!) makeup and hair styling was provided by Jenna Schneider, in her studio just upstairs in the Ford Building. We recently connected up with her, and we’ve come to really enjoy working with her in a short time!

We’re beyond excited to finally start introducing you to our senior models! We’ll be sharing Jihan’s final photos in Part Two of this blog, so stay tuned to our blog, or follow our Facebook and Twitter and be instantly notified when we post the amazing photos from her shoot.  Be sure to keep following us, so you can meet all of our awesome seniors from the Class of 2012!

Concept senior portraits are always a blast to work on, and shooting with  JoAnna, an Oregon City High School Senior, gave us a chance to do just that. When she first contacted us, she knew immediately that she wanted to shoot a modern gothic portrait for part of her session, so we brought in makeup artist and hair stylist Abibat Durosimi to provide the styling for a fresh look, and a conceptual one.

We ventured into industrial areas of Portland for her first look, and found a fantastic weathered vintage car to work with.

Some of the nearby buildings also made a great backdrop for headshots and yearbook photos.

We also incorporated some nearby graffiti and signs, to add a playful twist to her portraits.

When it came time to do makeup and hair for JoAnna’s second look, I knew we were in for a fun second look when Abibat asked, “do you want to be transformed?” and JoAnna’s answer was an enthusiastic Yes! After her wild makeup was applied and every hair was in place, we ventured up to Cathedral Park in St. Johns for some night portraits.

JoAnna brought her own outfit and selection of shoes to complete the look, with bold blues and blacks.

We also captured some modern headshots, to highlight Abibat’s awesome styling for the concept portrait.

Josh and I teamed up for our senior portrait session with Shayna, and the weather was just about perfect that day. Shayna’s active in cross-country and lacrosse at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, and her love of the city and the outdoors gave us plenty of room to change things up and wander a bit. We started our session in Portland’s Pearl District, and then got to head out towards the edge of town, to hit up a few lesser-known spots that we’d found on one of our more recent photowalks.

I think the highlight of the session for me was when we took her down to a sandy spot by the river: I always enjoy shooting at locations that take us a bit off the beaten path, and Shayna also surprised us by suggesting that she stand in the water for some of her shots. I love it when I’m working with someone who’s not afraid to get a little bit messy!
