Several Portland area schools seem to be pushing back their yearbook deadlines for 2010, and I, for one, am a fan: because of that, I had the opportunity to do a senior shoot in the snow! Melissa is a Class of 2010 senior with a background in ice skating and other winter sports, so she was excited about the idea of shooting in the snow. So, we planned an afternoon to make the trip out to Timberline Lodge so we could shoot her senior session there.

It was a windy and (obviously!) cold day on the mountain, but the sun was out and there were a lot of fantastic spaces in, out, and around the Lodge to work with, and Melissa was a trooper in dealing with the cold temperatures. In fact, she dealt with the conditions better than I did–I was shivering in my heavy winter coat and gloves, while she sat in the snow in a light sweater and was smiling the whole time!

My short in-studio session with Patrick was simple, but it was far from boring. He has a background in acting, dance, and performance, so he was happy to just smile, play, and simply MOVE. We got so many dynamic shots from just this one set that it’s near-impossible for me to choose favorites, but I have to share at least a few!

When Lakeridge High School Class of 2010 senior Madeline was ready to set up her senior portraits, she came to me with an intriguing request for the session: we’d be shooting at a horse farm! Madeline has a fair bit of experience in the saddle, so we met with her at the Spirit Horse Farm, just outside of Beaverton, and she did her session with one of the horses she rides most. It was a cold and cloudy day, and we didn’t want to frighten the horse with any flashes or lighting equipment, but we still caught a nice variety of shots, and some really cute and genuine moments.
